YOKOHAMA, Japan - Nearly a decade after its international debut, Nissan is releasing the most advanced kind of its unique e-POWER innovation.

First released in Europe 4 years ago, e-POWER was developed to provide an electric-drive experience without the requirement to plug in - combining the smooth, simple and easy velocity and improvement of an EV with the everyday convenience of standard combustion power.

The third generation system has been thoroughly re-engineered for even better fuel performance, lower emissions and elevated refinement. New e-POWER will even more smooth the transition from fuel towards zero emissions.

The variety and of diesel, with the improvement and responsiveness of an EV

At the heart of the e-POWER is a special concept which provides real customer advantages: the fuel engine is utilized just to produce electrical power which is distributed directly to the electric motor to drive the wheels, as well as to charge the battery if needed.

Unlike standard hybrids, there is no complicated gearbox and coupling to combine gas power and electric energy to drive the wheels, suggesting reaction is instantaneous and the drive is always smooth, just like an EV. And like an EV, the regenerative braking system on e-POWER converts kinetic energy into electrical energy, fed back into the battery.

New e-POWER takes this principle and elevates it even more to provide a best-in-class * balance of efficiency, EV-like refinement and real-world fuel efficiency - however with the range and versatility of a traditional combustion engine automobile.

When set up in the European Qashqai, the new, third generation e-POWER brings major improvements throughout every key area:

Fuel usage: lowered to 4.5 L/100km (WLTP) - best-in-segment figures relating to a potential variety of 1200km CO2 emissions decreased from 116g/km to 102g/km a 12% reduction compared to the present model Cabin noise: decreased by up to 5.6 dB compared to previous generation - using EV-like improvement +10 kW increase in Sport Mode - delivering a more responsive and interesting drive

Comprehensive engine modifications

At the core of the New e-POWER is a newly-developed 5-in-1 modular powertrain system, which integrates the electrical motor, generator, inverter, reducer and increaser into a compact and lighter bundle. Combined with improvements to engine calibration and sound insulation, the system decreases both noise and vibration under load. Overall, power is up by 11kW, at an optimum of 151kW. The battery capacity is unchanged at 2.1 kWh.

Despite having a comparable three cylinder 1.5-litre turbo setup as the out-going variation, the engine is all-new and is now committed to its application in e-POWER. It adopts Nissan’s proprietary STARC combustion principle, which has lifted thermal performance to 42% by stabilising in-cylinder combustion - which allows the engine to run more silently and successfully at lower speeds. A brand-new, bigger turbo has actually been fitted, which also brings efficiency gains, allowing a 200rpm reduction in engine speeds throughout highway driving, contributing to the lower general noise level.

The variable compression ratio innovation discovered on the previous version has actually been rendered redundant by the other modifications to the engine.

Additional engine performance has actually been created by the modification to 0W16 lubricating oil, lowering internal friction. European customers who buy a Qashqai will also appreciate the brand-new, longer service intervals which have actually been extended from 15,000 km to 20,000 km.

The net result of all the changes to the e-POWER system is that independent screening using the fuel performance assessment protocol from ADAC, Germany’s leading vehicle association, reveals up to 16% better fuel economy in real-world conditions, and 14% enhancement on the highway fuel usage versus the present generation.

Eiichi Akashi, Chief information technology Officer and executive officer, Nissan Motor Corporation, stated “This brand-new, third generation e-POWER system redefines Nissan’s hybrid innovation providing smooth and responsive driving in all conditions. We have actually embedded close to a years of knowings to ensure the system is more efficient, more refined and more competitive. The launch with Qashqai is simply the beginning, we eagerly anticipate providing this sophisticated powertrain to consumers in North America and Japan in FY26, with other markets to follow”.

In the European Qashqai, real-world variety is over 1000km on a full tank, new e-POWER goes further than many traditional plug-in hybrids - without the requirement for a charging cable or awaiting a complete charge.

A smarter step towards electrical

For lots of chauffeurs, transferring to a totally electrical automobile still features concerns - about charging, range, infrastructure, and routine modification. That’s where e-POWER comes in.

With its totally electrical motor drive and no plug-in requirement, new e-POWER provides a clear, confident enter electrified driving - combining the smoothness and instant reaction of an EV, with the familiar range and benefit of an ICE. It delivers the experience of an electric car, without the viewed challenges and typical misconceptions that can still hold some motorists back from switching to fully electrical.

And since the engine never ever powers the wheels, the driving feel is entirely electrical, with no gear shifts, no power lag, and no engine sound at low speeds. Yet, unlike a battery electric automobile, refuelling happens at any gas station.

By getting rid of the complexity of modification, e-POWER serves as a true transition technology - providing customers the benefits of electrical movement with none of the friction. It’s built for drivers who want something much better, but not something unknown.

The latest Qashqai geared up with new e-POWER is constructed at Nissan’s state-of-the-art factory in Sunderland, UK. It will be readily available in European markets from September 2025 and rollout throughout Africa and Oceania in the months ahead.
